Hilda M. (Fritz) Hoke

Hilda M. (Fritz) Titus Hoke, of Middletown passed away peacefully at Carolyn’s House on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the age of 100.  She was born February 28, 1922 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late John and Stella (Reese) Fritz and sister of Elizabeth (Fritz) Needleman. 

Hilda is survived by her four children:  Joan Bretz and husband David, David Titus, James Titus and wife Edith, Janet Reiseg and husband Paul, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 

She married her high school sweetheart, Jim, on her 20th birthday and together they raised four children until his death 30 years later.  She then married Marlin Hoke.  She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

One of Hilda’s first jobs was hand dipping peanut butter cups for Reese’s Chocolate and she got a kick out of telling people that she worked on Broadway, which she did, but not as an actress.  She worked for the PA Lottery when it first began and retired from the PA Department of Revenue.

In her younger years she spent time bowling, swimming, ice skating and even hunting.  Later she enjoyed singing with the Happy Wanderers, “mutilating” crossword puzzles, playing cards while showing no mercy to her opponents, and eating chocolate!  She was feisty, ready with a joke or two (usually the same ones) and you never knew when she might break into song. 

Hilda’s house (where she lived for 70 years) was always open for company and she was ever ready with a hot cup of coffee and warm, witty conversation.  From the hot cocoa, gingerbread and other goodies after the Halloween Parades, to enjoying a chat on the front porch, she was a friend and a joy to all who were fortunate enough to know her.  She will be sorely missed by her many friends and a family who loves her more than words could ever express. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 208 N. Union Street, Middletown, PA  17057.  Services to follow with burial at the Middletown Cemetery.
